How do i book a session if I don't know when the baby will be born?
I reserve 2 dates, one around the due date, one around week 43. The best age is between 5 & 18 days old as they're still very sleepy and easily posed into those womb poses. If baby hasn't arrived by the due date, we will simply aim for the 2nd date. These dates can be moved to suit you and they are just a guide (during winter season this may be more difficult)
Can I bring siblings to the session?
Of course! They're part of your family and sibling and family images are included in all sessions. The baby sessions are a couple of hours so bring toys and things to occupy them or have a family member bring them during the last 30 mins whatever is easiest for you!
Do I need to do anything during the session?
Nothing at all - I have been doing newborns for 14 years so I'm very confident in posing and settling babies, they're also much more settled when they cant smell or sense mum so it's actually easier when mum is sat away from baby. If some poses in props need baby supporting I may ask for assistance but this is rare.
Am I able to be involved in the session?
I prefer parents to sit and watch (everything can be seen from my sofa) the main reason for this is your baby will smell you, and the minute they smell you they want mummy cuddles and milk! I want your baby to get used to me, my touch, my smell so that they settle with me.
What happens if my baby cries?
Babies cry, it's what they do. They're never in pain when I'm posing but some do get grumpy as they're sound asleep and I'm moving them and they can get grumpy but the always settle back down. Some babies don't like certain poses and I will only ever try each pose 3-4 times and then I move onto the next. I will also try to settle your baby myself and only pass them back to mum if they are breasted.
My baby doesn't like being naked is this a problem.
Babies actually love being naked if the room is warm enough. The area I'm shooting in is around 28 degrees so lovely and toastie. I wear gloves so my hands remain the same temperature as baby so I can handle them without them startling.
What if they're sibling doesn't want to go near the baby?
This is very common in siblings under 3 years old. If this is the case I will take a photo of the baby in a prop, then take the baby out and have the sibling sit next to an empty prop and then I will edit the 2 images together. Sweets & chocolate also work great for bribery
Can I choose the props and colours?
When your baby has arrived I send you a prep guide and a form to fill in where you pick your colour preferences and enter the babies weight - This is so I can know which props will be best suited for your newborn. You can of course send me some examples from my website or some of my props you love, however for safety reasons, some props may not be suitable for your baby due to weight and age.
My baby has bad/flaky skin shall I cancel the session?
Most babies have skin rashes, spots, flaky skin. This is no problem as every image is edited. As a rule, if baby has something that will go, I will edit it. Unless you want them left then please do tell me during the session and I won't edit out flaky/spotty skin.
Can you come home with me and settle them at night?
HAHA this is the most requested thing I am asked; I have 3 children myself so have to go home to them otherwise I would!
